Still The One
Sometimes, I supplement my CD/Tape Collection of Smooth Jazz, R&B & Quiet Storm sounds with some good quality light rock. Music like this often gets overlooked. The tracks on this CD are most (but not all) of the songs which made up 2 of Orleans' albums. The music is a very pleasant blend of rock, pop, light country with some mild R&B sounds included in the mix. The music is very easy on the ears & may be just a little too smooth for some people. The 2 big hits are "Still The One" & "Dance With Me" which are 2 of the 70's better songs that still sound nice today. "Reach" has a bit of a country feel to it & though I am not a country fan it is also an appealing song. The jazzy "Spring Fever" is a treat. It was an FM radio staple in the 70's. "Waking & Dreaming" is an interestingly arranged number which goes through several tempo changes & has nice harmonies. "If I Don't Have You", "Give One Heart" & "Sails" are all nice ballads. Some of the lyrics sound a little stilted like "Your Life My Friend" or "What I Need" but are basically harmless. This music holds a definite place in my heart ( & probably the hearts of others) along with such artists as Gerry Rafferty, Little River Band, Kenny Loggins, Paul Davis & a few other Light Rock artists of the 70s. My one criticism is of the awful cover photo of "Waking & Dreaming"! The guys should have left their shirts on! What were they thinking? Oh yeah, it was the 70's!
