Culture Train Vol. 2

Culture Train Vol. 2

Since his recording debut some forty-five years ago, BB Seaton has proved time and again to be a man of enormous talent, whose influence on the destiny of Jamaican music has been nothing short of profound. Over the years, BB has been responsible for a vast catalogue of hit recordings, as a vocalist, songwriter and producer, always maintaining a standard of excellence few if any of his peers could match. This is reflected in the fourteen classic tracks on this second volume of CULTURE TRAIN, which features recording from BB along with a number of Jamaica's finest performers. BB's unmistakable tenor can clearly be heard on four of the recordings on this compilation, the earliest of which is the much sought-after, HAVEN'T I THE RIGHT aka (NEVER LET YOUR COUNTRY DOWN), on which BB leads the Legendary Gaylads, one of the finest vocal trios to have emerged from Jamaica's golden shores. BB's three superb solo offerings, FORGIVE THEM LORD, JAH HELP THOSE WHO HELP THEMSELVES and I FEEL LOST, all illustrate his considerable abilities as Boothe a singer and songwriter, combining sublime melodies with beautiful and often profound lyrics. BB was also instrumental in the formation of the two Jamaican super-groups on this collection, THE CONSCIOUS MINDS and the MESSENGERS formed in 1970 THE CONSCIOUS MINDS who perform the magnificent REVOLUTION SONG, included the talents of BB along with fellow Gaylads Maurice Roberts plus respected vocalists Joe White and Ken Boothe. He and Ken joined forces again in THE MESSENGERS who also included the talents of Lloyd Charmers and Busty Brown and this tremendous depth of talent is reflected in the group's powerful performance of CROWDED CITY. Ken Boothe also features on two solo recordings, WHO REALLY CARES and LOVE COME TUMBLING DOWN, both of which serve to reinforce his reputation as one of the finest vocalists in Jamaican music. Another of Reggae music's most celebrated performers is JUSTIN HINDS. whose classic recording SINNERS cut at the famed Treasure Isle studio back in the mid-seventies became a size-able hit. WINSTON FRANCIS has also had his fair share of success over the years, dating back to the late sixties when he recorded as series of notable sides for WIRL and Studio One. His beautiful interpretation of the Abyssians Rasta Anthem, SATTA MASSA GANA, illustrates a vocal prowess few singers could hope to match. One of the most performers on the Jamaican music scene is MIKEY DREAD CAMPBELL, who first shot to pre-eminence in the late seventies RASTA BABY BORN is a fine example of his distinctive style of of toasting which has since influenced a new generation of DJ's. Although perhaps lacking the musical pedigree of some of the other performers on this album. OCHO RIOS nonetheless prove their individual ability on their two excellent sides, BUMBO AND RASS and LIVE LIFE.Another lesser light of the reggae scene is RAS FOWLIE who proves to be a singer of rare quality with his masterful version of Dennis Brown's NO MAN IS AN ISLAND. Now that your are familiar with some of the contributors on this collection, it's time to jump right on the Culture Train for a musical journey of Classic Reggae sounds........All aboard for an unforgettable experience.....
