Mahler: Symphony No. 2 in C Minor "Resurrection" (Live)
Gustav Mahler - 2. Symphony NEW ON THE ORCHESTRA LABEL: «RESURRECTION SYMPHONY» Gustav Mahler’s «Resurrection Symphony» pushed beyond the musical conventions of its time. «If that’s music, I don’t under-stand anything about music anymore», was the verdict of Hans von Bulow, but the conservative Johannes Brahms was enthusias-tic, proclaiming Mahler «King of the Revolutionaries». The epic symphony takes up a whole concert and features the longest of all final movements from Mahler’s pen. The Tonkunstler and their Music Director Yutaka Sado performed the work in May 2019 in the Wiener Musikverein with the exquisite vocal talents of soprano Daniela Fally, mezzo-soprano Elisabeth Kulman and the Slovakian Philharmonic Choir. As a Viennese orchestra with a musical tradition dating back over a century, the Tonkunstler, like the Vienna Philharmonic, play on Viennese instruments. Gustav Mahler was also closely associated with Vienna. But when it came time to leave the city, it was this work that the composer judged the right one with which to bid his farewell. The CD’s trilingual booklet offers music-lovers the opportunity to deepen their listening experience in German, English or Japanese.
