Cripple Creek
The Piedmont school of 'Carolina Country Blues', was typified by guitar picker Blind Boy Fuller and the Reverend Gary Davis. Their work, particularly in the immediate pre-war years of 1935-40, was to have not just nationwide but global reverberations. The south-east tradition they established carried on after the war by the legendary harmonica player Sonny Terry and singer, pianist and guitarist Brownie McGhee. Our compilation here comprises four original albums from the 1950s with bonus tracks. Two of the albums feature Terry and McGhee playing together ('Get On Board' and 'Washboard Band', the others ('Brownie McGhee Blues' and 'Sonny Terry's Washboard Band') are solo ventures.
