LIVE AT THE JAZZ CAVE
On April 18th and 19th of 2006, saxophonist Pete Christlieb and the Lori Mechem Quartet worked some palpable musical magic in the Jazz Cave at the Nashville Jazz Workshop. With virtually no rehearsal time (if you discount the couple of hundred years of collective musical experience in the group), they were able to produce this recording in front of live audiences. Christlieb’s jazz bona fides are without question. A twenty year veteran of the “Tonight Show” orchestra, thousands of hours of studio work and hundreds of jazz gigs, primarily on the West Coast, have given him the experience required to pull off a one shot live recording without breaking a sweat. A huge-toned tenor player with astounding technique, he is able to fill up a room with his sound. This is the 2nd CD from the Lori Mechem Quartet. The 2003 release "Shiny Stockings" was a tribute to the music and style of Count Basie. It reached #24 on the Jazz Charts and is still played weekly on "Jazz with Bob Parlocha", America's foremost syndicated jazz radio show. The quartet consists of Lori on piano, her husband Roger Spencer on bass, Chris Brown on drums and Andy Reiss on guitar. The sound of the quartet is reminiscent of the Basie rhythm section, primarily because of the Freddie Green style rhythm guitar and everyone's penchant for unrelenting swing. If you like straight ahead swingin' Jazz....... this one's for you!!
