Stoder Time
Matthew Lien's music draws inspiration from life on Earth, fusing world instrumentation and field recordings in passionate high-fidelity productions. "Stoder Time" is true to this, yet veers far from Matthew's well-known nature- and culture-oriented music by plowing headfirst into the blues-rock style Matthew also loves. The song was composed by Matthew in his 20s while visiting friends in the world famous ski village, Hinterstoder, Austria. “Stoder Time” was first recorded in 2011 for his mother's 80th birthday. This re-recording features the electric guitar playing of Matthew's long-time music partner, Rick Perry of Nashville. The crowd heard singing in the end of the song was recorded, appropriately, at a beer hall, specifically at "346" Jienguo Beer Hall in Taipei. Taiwan. The place-names mentioned in the song are real (“Screaming Chicken Town”, and “Upper Goat Creek”), and while they sound more reasonable in their native tongue of German, their hilarious tone in English is partly what inspired Matthew to compose this song. This version featuring Rick Perry, will be presented to his mother this year for her 82nd birthday, in Hinterstoder, Austria. (... where else?)
