Piano Reflections
After a 33 year career as a public school educator, Tom Davis recently retired as K-12 Music Curriculum Area Lead Teacher and Director of Bands in the Canandaigua City School District. Tom earned degrees from the Ithaca College and the Eastman School of Music. His prominent teachers and mentors include Rayburn Wright, Bill Dobbins, Manny Albam, Steve Brown, John LaBarbera, Ramon Ricker, and Vincent DiMartino and composer Stephen Melillo. An active composer and conductor, Mr. Davis has published over 150 jazz, concert band, orchestra and chamber works through his company Tom Davis Music Publications (www.TomDavisComposer.com) as well as artistShare™ (www.tomdavismusic.com) Educational Programs Publications (EPP), Heritage Jazz Works (Lorenz Publications), Kendor Music, Warner Brothers Publications, and Alfred Publications. A representative sample of past commissions and major works include: "Kiwu for Kalama Suite" - to benefit the village of Kalama, Kenya Water Project, "Home Again - a Tribute to Harvey Phillips" for Michael Salzman (Hofstra University), "With The Grain - Three Sculptures by Willard Stone" - for the Locust Grove, Oklahoma High School Band, "Via Crusis" for the Caston High School Band, Fulton, Indiana, and “Breathing” by Fred Sturm, recomposed for the Newtown High School Band. Current projects include: Tuba Concert PSM#66 for Michael Salzman and the Hofstra University Band. Arise for the Midlakes Middle School Concert Band. If a Boy Played His drum on the Street, for the Finger Lakes Music Educator’s Association, Film Score for Chetco River, Dr. Stephanie Maxwell, director, Suite No. 1 for Trombone Ensemble, Missouri State Trombone Ensemble. Mr. Davis lives in Canandaigua NY with his wife Paula and has two grown children, Michael a chef, and Matthew a lawyer.
