Long John Higginbotham comes out of the red hot Austin,Texas music scene of the mid '70's that produced the Country Outlaw movement. And lives to tell about it. "Yeah, those were heady times. Willie had just moved down to Austin, & Jerry Jeff Walker & Michael Martin Murphy were all ready living there.I hooked up with this fellow named Bill Callery, who had written the hit song,HANDS ON THE WHEEL, for Willie Nelson", who recorded it on his Grammy award winning concept album,RED HEADED STRANGER.Since then the song has also appeared in the Robert Redford/Jane Fonda movie,ELECTRIC HORSEMAN,as well as being reprised in movie version of RED HEADED STRANGER. "Through traveling & working with Billy C., I got to meet & play with some of the more important Singer/Songwriters of the Outlaw Era, from Austin to Nashville & every point in between. Jerry Jeff Walker, Guy Clark,Susanna Clark Ray Wylie Hubbard, Dick Feller, I never got to play with Willie but I was on stage with Waylon Jennings once...also I opened for David Allan Coe once, appearing with his back-up band,The Tennessee Hat Band.I also got to jam with Bonnie Raitt & Lowell George,of Little Feat in my living room..but thats another story all together.."I feel especially blessed for being able to do what I love the most in the world, making Music."
