Papillon
Roland Voss has returned with a new Lemongrass long-player called Papillon (the French word for butterfly), and it’s available now. Very much a summer album, the dreamy downtempo of songs like “Now” and “Red Heaven” evoke memories and feelings of hazy sunsets and evenings on the beach. Papillon mixes lounge with occasional hints of Jazz and Deep House, and most of its songs are instrumental, alternating between ambient and groove-driven styles. Lemongrass also introduces us to a new vocal collaborator named Jane Maximova whose voice sounds both bittersweet and blissful on songs such as “Riddle.” Papillon, the 13th Lemongrass record in 16 years, is a beautiful album, and we recommend it highly.
