Production for the album took place during 2005 to 2006 at several recording studios and was handled by Dr. Dre, The Neptunes, Battlecat, DJ Pooh, Timbaland, Danja, Mark Batson, Terrace Martin, and Mr. Porter. The album debuted at number five on the US Billboard 200 chart, selling 264,000 copies in its first week. Upon its release, Tha Blue Carpet Treatment received generally mixed to positive reviews from music critics.
