Nell
by Steven E. McDonaldAn excellent underscore that manages to combine the best of Isham's talent for lush orchestral writing (and ambient mood) with appropriate nods to Appalachian music, and the Irish, Scottish, and English music at the roots of that. For all that, Isham's choice of main instrument when he does touch on the Appalachian elements is the flute (rather than fiddle or mountain dulcimer), a choice that imparts a melancholy sweetness. A beautiful piece of work that works cohesively even outside of the film context.
