BIO Clifton McKenley aka “Rocky” Clifton McKenley, aka “Rocky” is a roots- rock- lovers’ singer with a buttery smooth voice in the classic reggae style. Born in St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands and raised in Jamaica, he emigrated to the USA and has been a vital part of the reggae community in the Boston area since. He first worked with Healing of the Nation in 1982 and over the years has continued working with many artists and musicians to promote and support the thriving Boston reggae scene that is known nationwide. He has shared the stage with all of the well known Boston reggae artists over the years like the I-tones, Motion, Dub Station, Hot Like Fire, Errol Strength, Danny Tucker, Jah Spirit, Ras Coolie, Major Jackson, Shaka Black and Kyle Russell. He has sat behind the mic on the local WERS Rockers radio show many times. He is a recognized face and voice by all on the Boston scene, and is continued to be welcomed on stage as a guest artist again and again. He is one of the voices that long time reggae lovers in Boston heard and loved in the clubs like Jonathan Swifts, The Channel, The Western Front, Bills Bar, Rhythm and Spice and The Middle East. Above all, Rocky loves to play good music. He has opened for Steel Pulse, Culture, Mighty Diamonds, Shinehead, Gregory Isaacs, Big Youth. Whether it is an original composition or a creative interpretation of another work, his sound is always rich and sweet in the classic lovers’ style.
