The Big Difference
When you consider the complexity of their music, it's surprising to find out that Sosam and Madera have never been in the same room together! Sosam met Madera during the Summer of 2012 online. Madera was surfing music using Jango internet radio when he came across a very unpolished Sosam. No one was really taking interest in Sosam's work until Madera, a vibrant lyricist, felt a creative connection. Madera made MULTIPLE attempts to contact an uninterested Sosam. Eventually he wore through and began sending 3-4 songs a day to Sosam over a 12 month period. Madera gave Sosam creative license with his lyrics and ample motivation. Sosam's bright yet secretly troubling melodies seemed to find the meaning behind Madera's lyrics, and under multiple band names the duo flourished. Going from "The Paper Dolls" to "The Justice fire", the core (Sosam & Madera) would go through multiple musicians and experience painful set backs. After publishing "Here's to Getting on With It," Sosam took a 10 month break from the group after experiencing a nervous break down. Finally in 2015, Sosam & Madera have re-united to make more of their signature cognitive dissonance with songs like "Hell in My Head."
