Look Good Tonight
Operating under his Dousk production pseudonym, John Ntouskos' "Bisocial" EP was a notable highlight in the Proton Music summer release schedule. Bewitching grooves and bouncing bass lines beneath tightly woven melodic magic formed the basis of something truly special from the Athenian resident. Fully deserving of full releases in their own right, the first of these tracks now takes pride of place as "Look Good Tonight" receives two brand new remixes from The Hague and Madrid. Dutch artist, Tim Brandwijk needs little introduction the knowledgeable music masses under his Embliss production moniker. Graduating from the Utrecht School of the Arts for Music Technology, his work has graced the finest imprints, supported by the global DJ glitterati. 24 tracks signed to Armada give some insight into the Embliss talent as does work for Silk, Solaris and AnjunaBeats. Furthermore, the original track "Back To Mine" went on to be featured on the "Anjunadeep 03" compilation before a full release and remix by industry heavyweight, Michael Cassette. A considerable portfolio of original productions and remixes have graced the Particles imprint and 2013's "Stronghold" EP for Proton Music heralded in a newly maturing sound to the Embliss skill set affording him further success. Remixing Dousk, "Look Good Tonight" follows on from the successes of "Stronghold" as a pounding beat and shuffling percussive rhythm are soon accompanied by a series of foreboding pads that give little hint of the huge distorted bass line groove that is set to follow. A masterpiece in dance floor sensibilities, Embliss takes the raw elements from Dousk's original and turns them into a jarring bass groove that is unrivalled in its skill and execution, replete with the vocal cuts and drum fills that define the original. Working from the Madrid capital Gonzalo Luque has had and illustrious production career under his Soulwerk production guise. Finding success early on with a number one Beatport "House" chart hit and a number two in the overall Beatport chart, Luque's Soulwerk moniker has afforded him even greater success. The "Fraktals" EP for Cid Inc.'s Replug and "Lucid Dreams" EP for Mirabilis demonstrated this success as support came from the most highly respected of quarters including Hernan Cattaneo, Markus Schulz, and Nick Muir. Following this success, Soulwerk has been at the forefront of the underground EDM scene with the track "Convergence" proving a further Beatport chart-topping success for Change Audio and spawning a clutch of remixes from the likes of Lank, Silinder and Seb Dhajje. Marking his debut for Particles with a remix of Jorg Murcus' "The Taint of the Mirror" in Summer 2012, Soulwerk now debuts for Proton Music with a delightful interpretation of "Look Good Tonight". In trademark style, a bevy of layered and textured pads open proceedings before a wonderfully hypnotic groove takes its place, punctuated by occasional references to Dousk's instantly recognisable bass line. An intricately layered percussive section adds to the delicate feel as the vocal cuts from the original acquire further twisted treatments to create something very special. Two new remixes from Embliss and Soulwerk have ensured that Dousk will "Look Good Tonight", tomorrow, next month and next year.
