Notes to My Blood
The first band that I ever bought absolutely everything I could find of was Sublime. They were a band that never truly fit into one genre. They played punk songs but I wouldn't call them a punk band. They played ska songs but I wouldn't call them a ska band. They wrote some tunes that I would totally consider pop songs but they definitely were not a pop band. They just rocked out whatever they had whenever they had it as hard as they could. That's a mantra I live by. I am not a genre. It all comes back to story-telling. It's what I do, it's what I focus on, it's what I love. In a perfect world, I'd be travelling from city to city with my guitar. I'd stop into every local bar I see and meet somebody. They'd tell me some of their stories, I'd share some of my own, and then I'd play 'em some songs I'd written about other people I'd met on the road. I'd keep circling and circling the country, slowly finding all of these people who think they're so different from each other or isolated, and then I'd prove them wrong.
