Real Thing (Eric Kupper Remix)

In 1986 their song “I Can’t Wait” became a worldwide hit for the Portland band Nu Shooz, rocketing them to fame and leaving an historical mark on the New Wave decade.  Since then the song has been played countless times on radio and Pandora stations, appeared in dozens of soundtracks for movies, commercials, ringtones and video games, and been sampled by artists like Vanessa Williams, 50 Cent and Questlove, most recently for a U.S. Target ad campaign featuring Swede-pop stars Icona Pop. With the 30-year anniversary of the hit, which reached #1 on Billboard’s Hot Dance charts and earned them a “Best New Artist” Grammy nomination, Nu Shooz returned in 2016 with their first full-length CD, titled “Bagtown.” Now the 80s soul explorers have released a remix by DJ/Producer/Engineer Eric Kupper from the first single off of “Bagtown” - “Real Thing.” Eric Kupper is known to DJ's everywhere for his production skills and a client list eight miles high, having worked with everyone from Alicia Keys to Depeche Mode. Since 1986 he has played on, remixed, and/or produced over 2000 records for artists spanning all contemporary musical genres. His work in the mid-to-late 1980s/early 1990s, especially his work with Def Mix Productions, is considered to be part of the foundation for house music as it exists today. Eric is in fine form here with a remix that gives the retro soul sounds of Nu Shooz the deep house throb that the dancers crave and highlights the Acid Jazz/Philly Soul flavor of the vocals.  Eric waxes poetic about remixing "Real Thing": "It was such a pleasure to remix this awesome song…created by a band I've greatly admired for so long; it is a real honor for me to be involved in this project."
