One design EP
Mooli are Clea Llewellyn on vocals and guitars, and synth player/producer Ben Copland. Clea and Ben started working together at the end of 2003, after Ben heard Clea plays acoustic sets in Maidstone Kent, and at Chatham's Tap 'n' Tin. But the strange things is , that they both met on the streets of Maidstone. On Ben's very first time visiting Maidstone, for potential properties to act as both home and studio, their eyes met, and they started talking. Ben told Clea what he did for a living, as a professional signed songwriter, with a few hits already under his belt; and was shocked to learn that Clea was a singer and a songwriter herself. Intrigued,he suggested they continued talking, and suggested the local burger bar. Wrong move- with Clea being Vegetarian. They went to Clea's Mum's house and she played him some acoustic songs she'd been working on. What struck Ben more than anything was the sheer quality and distinctiveness of her voice. It left a real impression on him. With Clea, he knew that he'd found someone equally passionate about music, who was able to touch her audience with her emotive performances. Listening to Clea sing, you can't help but be moved by her distinctively rich, soulful voice. Clea had come through the traditional singer/songwriter route of smoky pubs and bars around Kent. Gigging with her guitar at fourteen, busking in Maidstone Town centre at seventeen and playing countless solo, duo and band gigs have all contributed to her development into an accomplished live performer, sounding equally good on stage as she does on record. Tracks from the One design Ep, feature on 14 International Compilations , featuring the likes of Snow Patrol, Sarah Mc Lachlan, Underworld, William Orbit, Bonobo, Jose Gonzalez, and Royksopp. Later in 2008/9 Mooli's One Design feature on a Brit Feature film.
