Eye On The Horizon
From the ashes of Big Audio Dynamite and Screaming Target, founder member Greg Dread, original bassmaster Leo Williams, the unmistakable MC Spee, legendary reggae vocalist Earl 16 alongside Chris Compton on guitar and Chris Oldfield on technology make up the current team of dreadz. The story started with Alan McGee‘s Creation and the first groundbreaking album 360, continuing with their seminal 1995 album ‘Second Light‘ picking up support from John Peel who cited it as one of his favourite 10 albums of all time. The top 20 hit from that album ‘Little Britain’ has since acquired classic status. Dreadzone’s 6 album career has spanned the credibility of a Creation Records release, major moves on Virgin and independent support on Functional and Rufflife. Their much anticipated new studio album ‘Eye on the Horizon’ is set to be released on their own label, Dubwiser Records in 2010. Not only does ‘Eye on the Horizon’ reflect on their illustrious past of innovative releases but it picks up from where the popular 'Little Britain' left off in the mid 90’s and re-invents the band with ten tracks that mark the move into proper song-writing against a backdrop of the dubwise dancabilty they are reknown for. Dreadzone are regarded as early pioneers and innovators and have influenced many DJs and producers of the current Drum and Bass and Dubstep scene. This is a band that has picked themselves up from personal setbacks to re-ignite and channel the emotion into a set of tunes that defy genre and are a timely reminder of the depth and originality of this unique British group.
