Space to Move, Pt. I
Kyle Thornton & The Company is a Boston based “soul-hop” group that aims to bring you a fresh new sound sampling influences from several genres while still remaining grounded in the passionate and honest style that is the blues. Growing up in Richmond, Virginia, R&B, soul, gospel and the blues permeated the rooms of the Thornton household giving a young Kyle the inspiration and foundation that he would take with him from the humble choir loft of his home church to the prestigious Berklee College of Music. Originally a solo artist, equipped with his acoustic and electric guitars, Kyle writes emotional songs that people can relate to drawing from his own experiences of love, loss, and occasionally beverages with inspirations like Bill Withers, Kendrick Lamar, Frank Ocean and many more. Upon arriving at Berklee, Thornton soon started rehearsing his original music with friends that he made in the classroom, cafeteria, and collegiate community. The group began with a rhythm section, featuring Sam Segerblom, Henri Young, Johannes Burger, and Marshawn Fondren. Soon to follow was the horn section- Noah Conrad, Brett White, and Zakery Lewis- thus filling out the The Company. After just a few short months of performing together the band has made a name for themselves performing at venues such as the Berklee Performance Center, The House of Blues- Foundation Room, and many other venues in the Greater Boston Area. Radio personality, Sterling Golden, described Kyle Thornton & The Company’s performance as “a celebration of music and life, led by the group and fed by the screaming faithful around me. I felt the connection and let me tell you, family, it was a rush.”
