Fauré's Requiem is a favorite, with beautiful, impressionistic melodies and harmonies. Pavane is one of the best known melodies by Fauré, heard in its original form with chorus sweetly singing a love poem. Stravinsky fell in love with American Jazz in Paris and wrote Ragtime for a group of 11 solo instruments, including the unusual cimbalom. Completing the recording are two favorite Gershwin works, with soloists singing the Porgy & Bess favorites, all with full orchestra.
