Labirinto & thisquietarmy - Split
• LABIRINTO / THISQUIETARMY • The experimental post-rock band Labirinto from Sao Paulo (Brazil) teams up with the prolific one-man guitar drone machine thisquietarmy from Montreal (Canada) to present their new recordings. They both met and played together in Montreal when Labirinto was touring in North America for the 2nd time (early 2012). While Labirinto & thisquietarmy hail from different hemispheres, they have a mutual admiration for each other’s sound and work ethics, as well as their shared influences of textured sounds such ambient, psychedelic, post-rock & black metal. Furthermore, their common perspective of the world have bound them to create a record inspired by cultural & social values, political situations and universal phenomenons. As an ambitious 7-piece band, Labirinto’s instrumentation includes a combination of orchestral guitar riffs, synthesizers, bass, cello, drums & percussion. Their critically acclaimed 2010 debut album “Anatena” was by mixed Greg Norman (Pelican, Russian Circles), followed by their “Kadjwynh” EP in 2012. This time, they asked Tony Doogan (Mogwai) to mix the brand new material for their side of this split record. thisquietarmy is known for his outputs on respected experimental labels such as Denovali (Germany), Aurora Borealis (UK), Basses Frequences (France) & Alien8 Recordings (Canada), as well as his numerous collaborations with Aidan Baker, Scott Cortez (lovesliescrushing), Monarch, Noveller, Year of No Light & Yellow6. His hypnotic live performances are usually accompanied by abstract ethereal visuals, as seen on his European tours with Aidan Baker, AUN, Caspian, Nadja & Year of No Light. He was also the founder of shoegaze/post-rock band Destroyalldreamers. On his side of the record, he showcases the different sides of his staple drone buildups & dark ambient soundscapes. credits released 11 June 2013
