Outside Looking In
Multi-instrumentalist, Jose Bernardo, started honing his music skills at the Pop/Jazz Conservatory in Helsinki, Finland, at the age of eight on the drums. As a teen, Bernardo was running the cover band, Rejemillz, in which he played drums. The band had a residency at the Shark’s Club on the UWC campus in Singapore. After graduating from high school he left Rejemillz to accept a position as a percussionist with the Finnish Navy Band. His duties included playing bass, guitars, and singing as well. After serving in the Navy he continued his music studies at world renowned Berklee College of Music where concentrated his studies in electric bass and songwriting. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Songwriting in 2002. Bernardo co-founded the Boston pop/rock band XygoatZ in 2000. The band played various Boston music venues and released their debut album, I Don’t Have A Monkey, featuring Bernardo as a co-songwriter and on guitar, in 2001. In July 2006, Bernardo released his debut solo album Outside Looking In. “This album was a therapeutic and an enjoyable record for me to make,” says Bernardo. “I was involved in all aspects of this project from the writing and performance of the songs, all the way through to the production and engineering. O.L.I. was generally in the direction I wanted to go musically after the XYgoatZ record.” Bernardo is currently working on new material. For more information, please visit www.josebernardo.net
