Through It All
Saxophonist, composer, arranger, and educator John Savage presents his second solo outing, "Through It All". Based in Upstate New York, John has been performing for almost 20 years, having worked as a sideman/arranger in many area horn bands, jazz groups, and rock bands and as a session player on a variety of projects and musical styles. He has performed with Ben E. King, The Drifters and backed jazz greats Bob Mintzer (Yellowjackets), Jeff Jarvis, Chris Vadala, and Bill Cunliffe. Earning a B.S. in Music Education and a M.A. in Jazz Studies (both from The College of Saint Rose in Albany NY), John has been an avid music educator for over 10 years. He is the instrumental music director at Gloversville High School (Gloversville NY) and spends his summers teaching a summer jazz enrichment program for jr. and sr. high students at the College of Saint Rose. "Through It All" not only features John's abilities as a sax player and songwriter but has some extraordinary guitar work from seasoned guitarist Joe Sanges as well as three brilliant compositions from keyboardist/trumpeter Paul Sanges, written specifically for the album. This has been a very successful sophomore release for John, topping the response from his debut recording, "A Brighter Day". "Through It All" has gained some radio airplay and was selected to be the featured CD on Albany NY's WZMR Radio in February and March 2004 as part of their Local Artist of The Month series. "I think the popularity of 'Through It All' stems from the melodic content of each song. One of the goals in composing the songs for this CD was to write melodies that would be singable and memorable so that the listener might come away from hearing a tune whistling/humming the hook" "I am extremely proud of the cohesiveness of this album and the flow from song to song which, I hope, will lend itself to being played multiple times by the listener."
