Pernicious
"I'm a real dude so I'mma give you real stuff. I don't sugarcoat anything, I don't dub-down anything. I'm talking about true stuff...things that have really happened to me or thoughts that have seriously crossed my mind. I didn't grow up in the hood and I'm not rich, so why would I wanna talk about those things? I don't want you to see me as someone I'm not. I want you to see me as I really am. I titled my album Pernicious because I feel like that describes rap in general. The word means doing much harm. All these other rappers can defend the genre and say it's not negative, but it truly is. I have come to terms with this. It is what it is. Sure, there are positive hip-hop artists, but I'd say most are negative. It is up to the listener to take our negative words and turn them into a positive. I may say negative things, but hopefully you can turn that into a positive by being able to relate to the situations I portray." "Pernicious is my personal roller coaster. I'm giving you a ticket to ride with me. I started making this album about 3 years ago. It's been a long ride. It's been full of setbacks, headaches and pain. I've done everything myself. I've been my own writer, my own secretary, my own promoter, my own distributor. You will feel my strain when you hear the album. I keep telling everybody that it's worth the wait. I truly believe it is. I've turned the pain and struggle it took to make the album and made it a masterpiece for your ears. I made it for every rap listener. There's all kinds of different songs on it. I've got songs ranging from life in general all the way to cannibalism:) From backstabbin' friends to relaxing and having a drink at the club. I promise you quality with this album. I promise you talent. I promise you versatility. Some mainstream artists can't even promise you that. So, go and get Pernicious. Then, listen to it all the way through and tell me you don't like a single song. It won't happen. On the contrary, I think you'll like every track on the album. Ingenuity, keenness, entertaining....now that's Pernicious. Now that's J.Smitty." - J.Smitty
