[00:00.71]Let me tell you about a man Tommy Collins
[00:05.85]A veteran in country music
[00:07.83]Who interrputed his career by his own choice
[00:11.39]To become a minister and by the way
[00:14.36]I understand he was very successful
[00:17.71]And during this period of his life
[00:19.76]Tommy pasteured a small Baptist church
[00:22.86]In the very small town of Lincoln California
[00:27.32]And it was during this time
[00:29.27]That he was called upon to speak at a funeral
[00:32.91]And the poem I want to recite
[00:34.33]For you now is a true experience of Tommy's
[00:38.93]And it's simply called The Funeral
[00:52.55]A funeral is always a saddening thing
[00:56.27]For everybody is somebody to someone
[01:01.27]But some funeral scenes chill you to the bone
[01:05.24]And one day in our town we had one
[01:09.12]A very young mother had died
[01:10.92]Something that you just don't expect
[01:13.88]And the shops and stores had
[01:16.19]All closed their doors
[01:19.01]They did it out of love and respect
[01:23.32]And in the crowded funeral home that day
[01:25.14]With everyone present weeping
[01:28.02]The sound of a little girl's voice was heard
[01:31.60]She said That's my mommie
[01:33.79]She's sleeping
[01:36.80]Then I heard the sound of
[01:37.87]Her little feet tap tap tap
[01:42.31]As she made her way down the aisle
[01:45.21]Her little purse dangled from her tiny wrist
[01:48.19]And it brushed her best Sunday dress
[01:51.61]And she boldly asserted the confidence
[01:54.14]That little folks like her possess
[01:57.91]To the life that has no final chapter
[02:00.49]There's no ending and no last mile
[02:04.76]The preacher and the rest were petrified
[02:08.16]But on the little girl's face was a smile
[02:12.16]She said wake up mommie wake up
[02:16.06]And still not satisfied
[02:18.72]She reached out with her little hand
[02:20.83]And touched her face and cried
[02:25.53]Then the broken hearted daddy spoke
[02:27.28]With a gentleness and with power
[02:31.23]And the words that issued from his lips
[02:33.70]Was the sermon for the hour
[02:38.20]In a child like faith he told her
[02:41.64]That the dead in Christ will rise
[02:46.20]God gave us his word he said
[02:49.22]And we know he never lies
[02:53.81]We can't wake up our sleeping mommie
[02:57.72]But we know someone who can
[03:02.16]Baby only God can wake up mommie
[03:08.01]Let's go home and leave her in his hands
