Yevgeny Kutik

28-year-old Russian-American violinist Yevgeny Kutik has captivated audiences worldwide with an old-world sound that communicates a modern intellect. Praised for his technical precision and virtuosity, he is also lauded for his poetic and imaginative interpretations of both standard works and rarely-heard repertoire. The New York Times has commented on his “old-fashioned rhapsodic style…magnified by [his] rich, sweet tone.” Mr. Kutik’s second album, Music from the Suitcase: A Collection of Russian Miniatures, will be released by Marquis Classics in early 2014 and will feature music he found in his family’s suitcase after immigrating to the United States from the Soviet Union in 1990. Mr. Kutik made his debut in 2003 with Keith Lockhart and The Boston Pops as the 1st Prize recipient of the Boston Symphony Orchestra Young Artists Competition. He has since gone on to perform with orchestras in the United States and abroad including the Bozeman, East Texas, Greensboro, Juno, Lima, North State, and Wyoming symphony orchestras, the Riverside Symphony at the 92nd Street Y, Germany’s Norddeutsche Philharmonie Rostock and WDR Rundfunk Orchestra Köln, Montenegro’s Montenegrin Symphony Orchestra, and Japan’s Tokyo Vivaldi Ensemble. He has also appeared in recital in Chicago, Miami, New York, Washington, DC, Montreal, Munich, Prague, and Tokyo and has performed at festivals including Ludwigsburger Schlossfestspiele (Germany), Tanglewood, and Verbier (Switzerland). Highlights of the 2013-14 season include Mr. Kutik’s appearance performing Joseph Schwantner’s The Poet’s Hour – Soliloquy for Violin on episode six of Gerard Schwarz’s All-Star Orchestra, a made-for-television classical music concert series recently released on DVD by Naxos and broadcast nationally in September 2013. He will make his debuts with the Boca, Springfield, and Traverse symphony orchestras and will perform recitals for the Friends of the Performing Arts in Concord and the Hammond Performing Arts Series. Mr. Kutik will also record the complete Schubert Trios with cellist Julian Schwarz and pianist Paul Carasco for the Australian label, Master Performers. In 2006 Mr. Kutik was awarded the Salon de Virtuosi Grant as well as the Tanglewood Music Center Jules Reiner Violin Prize. In the same year he gave the world premiere performance of Ron Ford’sVersus with the Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra. Mr. Kutik was a featured performer for the 2012 March of the Living observances, where he played for audiences at the Krakow Opera House and for over 10,000 people at Auschwitz-Birkenau. He is also an advocate for the Jewish Federations of North America, and regularly speaks and performs across the United States to both raise awareness and promote the assistance of refugees from around the world. Mr. Kutik’s debut album, Sounds of Defiance, was released by Marquis Classics in February 2012 and features the music of Achron, Pärt, Schnittke, and Shostakovich performed with pianist Timothy Bozarth. Funded in large part by a Kickstarter campaign initiated by Mr. Kutik, the album focuses on music written during the darkest periods of the lives of these composers. A native of Minsk, Belarus, Mr. Kutik immigrated to the United States with his family at the age of five. Shortly thereafter he began violin studies with his mother, Alla Zernitskaya, and went on to study with Zinaida Gilels, Shirley Givens, Roman Totenberg, and Donald Weilerstein. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Boston University and a master’s degree from the New England Conservatory and currently resides in Boston. Mr. Kutik’s violin was crafted in Italy in 1915 by Stefano Scarampella. To find out more about Yevgeny Kutik, visit his website www.yevgenykutik.com. CLICK FOR PRESS KIT IMAGES YEVGENY'S BIO
