Tanya Tiet
Straight out of a big city rises a petite young woman with a mischievous smile; Tanya Tiet (pronounced: tee-yay) hailing from New York City, packs a voice and an energy much larger than her physical stature. As a vocalist and a live performer, Tanya Tiet has honed a style all her own as she impulsively swoops from soothing tones that caress emotions to fire-laced bellows that inspire celebration through movement. Tiet keeps us guessing and for that reason alone, we keep watching. Although Tiet currently resides in Arizona, she is far from just a local musician, having distinguished herself by completing multiple tours overseas and singing with prominent international artists such as the legendary group Sister Sledge (most recently, on a European tour that included funk legends Earth, Wind & Fire Exp. featuring Al McKay, Chic featuring Nile Rodgers and Kool & the Gang). In 2012, she sang behind R&B and television superstar Jamie Foxx at the Arizona Jazz Festival. Success is no recent occurrence for Ms. Tiet as she has also played her share of major venues all across the United States including: House of Blues in Las Vegas and Boston and BB King’s and S.O.B.’s in New York City and many others, opening for headliners such as Living Colour. Whether on stage singing with another artist or performing as a solo artist, Tanya Tiet is known for always bringing a charismatic stage show and adding a unique feel, while maintaining the authenticity of every song. Her very presence lights up any room and her experience gives her a wide range of styles allowing her to sing almost anything. Though her long lists of musical influences are vastly different from one another, those very differences contribute to Ms. Tiet’s ability to convey so many points of view through her melodies and performance, no matter where the words come from. This ability is magnified by her natural gift of compassion which allows her to completely absorb a story as her own and tell it in her voice as only she can. Over the years while making her mark on hundreds of stages, with her microphone in hand, Tiet has managed to seamlessly emerge as a writer of lyrics and poetry, both of which she has learned to spin into intuitive melodies that speak of heartfelt experiences that we can all relate to. Some time ago, this modestly camouflaged skill attracted the attention of producer and songwriter, Paris Toon and the pairing has developed into a fountain of creativity ever since. Her performances and behind the scenes work with Toon’s Soul/Jazz collective, known as Mother’s Favorite Child, have earned her much recognition along her journey from the East Coast club scene to her current Desert Digs. She is now in front of the curtain, showing off her skills in the studio and new venues all over town and abroad with brand new creations that just can’t be ignored. Tiet’s work with Paris Toon has proven to be a passion designed for success. Since they have many of the same influences in common, their mutual creations seem effortless as if born from one soul. This is the ongoing story of an artist; a project that started on the underground music scene and can now be found on cd and internet radio all over the globe. The long-awaited release of Tanya Tiet’s debut CD (self-titled) has now materialized and this is only the beginning . . . .
