the brandenburg consort
The Brandenburg Consort is a period-instrument ensemble specialising in the music of J S Bach and his contemporaries. Originally formed by Roy Goodman in 1975 to perform baroque music in an authentic manner, at first on modern instruments and from 1977 on period instruments, the ensemble merged in 1978 with Peter Holman's Ars Nova to become The Parley of Instruments. Roy Goodman co-directed 'The Parley' with Peter Holman until 1986 when he retired to become Principal Conductor of the Hanover Band. Roy Goodman revived The Brandenburg Consort in 1990. Since then, the Consort has given many performances in Britain and abroad and have also broadcast on BBC radio and Dutch television. Roy Goodman directs the Consort from the violin.
